If there are any test cases you would like me to stage, I'm at your service. You could use that to position foot notes at the end of a chapter, I suppose. I believe the option to position the notes below the text causes them to appear after the text in the case where the text flows to multiple frames. Footnotes can appear below the text, at the bottom of a column, at the bottom of the text frame, or below the text frame.

In Affinity Publisher, the footnote is tied to the text block. There are differences between footnotes in Publisher and Word.Ī footnote in Word is, as far as I know, something that appears at the bottom of a page. When I "place" a docx file with footnotes in an Affinity Publisher document, the footnotes appear as intended, and are imported as Publisher footnote objects. For general use, you probably want reflowable, which is only available in Apple Pages for word processing documents (Pages has two modes, word processing and desktop publishing). I could easily see how content would be messed up.For ePub, are there any desktop publishing tools that do much good? In Apple Pages, for example, you can export either a word processing or a desktop publishing document to ePub, but there are limitations.Īn Apple Pages desktop publishing document can only be exported as fixed layout. I see Old Bruce has just posted about the loss of character and paragraph styles. If an app is using idml to interact with InDesign, it should be written in bold letters 'this is not what it is intended to be used for'. So from my POV, unless I had access to the Adobe parser (so I could run any number of tests very easily), I would not want to use idml as an interchange format unless it was intended for that purpose. Untainting the input is only part of the story. Well that just opened a whole big can of worms, and led to huge numbers of exploits of CGI scripts (remember them?) all over the place. 20 years ago it was popular to say ' be conservative in what you do and be liberal in what you accept from others' when it came to programming (particularly with internet stuff). I've been in this game for > 20 years, and I've heard a lot of the arguments about how programming (and data exchange) should be done. Should the server terminate the connection or try to handle what has been sent as far as it can? So Bob client opens a connection with a bunch of attributes, and the server end expects something just a bit different. Occasionally these RFCs themselves are ambiguous (I'm looking at you, IMAP), even though they are not supposed to be. Much of the programming I have done is in the internet arena, and trying to adhere to RFCs. Let's say you have an Affinity-specific attribute called 'af-1', what happens if Adobe have already reserved that for a future specification of idml? But unless you have access to their parser and see how it handles the Affinity-specific attributes/elements/whatever, you won't know for sure what will happen. The same could apply to Affinity-specific content in an IDML file idml is a must.īy ignoring things they don't understand.

If Serif ever wishes to allow translators to work with their tools. But I do know that Trados et al that translators use simply work as has been mentioned in this thread. I haven't needed to interface much with translators. That is also true of ID to ID-I use the same version as they use. This is true whether it is a "simple brochure or, as is often the case, a book.ĭo I "collaborate" as in multiple back and forth work using disparate applications? Never. idml into ID and review to make sure the content is simply present. In such a case, I'll use a conversion to. I do not care if lines break differently. However, there have been times when the project has been finished (or is close to being finished) where the client requests an. If there is/was no agreed upon layout application specified, I'll generally use QXP. Others for whom it is apparent they don't deal with needing to provide deliverables in a "common" format, etc., etc.įor myself, I'll use the application the client wants deliverables in.with some exceptions. There are people in this thread writing out of absolute ignorance.
